GUIDE · HIRING BRIEFS

Write a brief
agencies can act on.

A job title is a starting point. A useful brief tells an agency what the person will need to achieve and what matters in the search.

Explain the work and its outcomes

Describe why you are hiring, the main responsibilities and what success looks like. Include who the role reports to and the team it will work with.

Separate essential from preferred

List the licences, experience and capabilities genuinely needed for the work. Keep desirable attributes separate so you do not unnecessarily narrow the search.

Make the practical details visible

State location, business unit, site, work pattern, employment type, salary or rate parameters and the intended start date. Flag relevant checks and approvals.

Set expectations for the process

Explain how proposals will be assessed, who makes decisions, the likely interview steps and when feedback will be available. Update agencies when requirements change.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Turn your hiring needs into a clear brief.

Give agencies the details they need to propose their approach.
